Nebraska Startup Ecosystem Daily Reporter

The Nebraska Journalism Trust is Nebraska’s first and only statewide, independent, nonprofit news organization. Our mission: To uncover truth, amplify diverse voices and enrich life in Nebraska.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical reporter to join our editorial team at Silicon Prairie News. This beat delivers breaking news from founders, investors, accelerators and key stakeholders shaping the Silicon Prairie. Cover funding announcements, product launches, policy changes and major events driving the state’s entrepreneurial landscape on a daily basis. 

The reporter will report to the Editor of Silicon Prairie News. The position is based at the organization’s headquarters in downtown Omaha and requires some in-office work, with the potential for remote work. It also requires occasional travel within Nebraska, including evenings and weekends. This a full time exempt salaried position.

Salary Range: $46,000-50,000/year

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members and sources to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Meet daily and weekly deadlines.
  • Collaborate with editors to refine and strengthen storytelling techniques.
  • Summarize complex data findings into clear and concise reports.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders in the startup ecosystem online and at in-person networking events in order to source story ideas.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in journalism, ensuring accuracy, fairness and impartiality.
  • Publish a minimum of four stories per week, including briefs, Prairie Portrait series and other subjects as assigned.
