We are hiring an Events Coordinator to lead the planning and execution of our signature events — Flatwater Festival and Startup Week — as well as smaller events throughout the year. This role involves coordinating every aspect of event logistics, from venue selection to post-event evaluation. The ideal candidate is an experienced event planner with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of ensuring every detail is executed flawlessly.
The Events Coordinator will report to the Director of Finance and Operations and work closely with the development and editorial teams. The position is based at the organization’s headquarters in downtown Omaha. It also requires occasional travel within Nebraska for events throughout the year, including in evenings or on weekends. This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position with scheduling flexibility.
Hours per week: 20, with hours closer to 40 during signature event weeks
Location: Omaha, NE- flexible hybrid schedule
Salary Range: $22- $26/ hour
Reports to: Director of Operations and Finance
Key responsibilities
- Plan and execute the Nebraska Journalism Trust’s signature events: Flatwater Festival and Startup Week.
- Organize smaller, mission-aligned events throughout the year to engage our audience and supporters.
- Research and secure venues that align with the organization’s budget and vision.
- Coordinate event logistics, including table arrangements, seating plans, branding materials, and audio-visual needs.
- Assist in event promotion, including email campaigns, print materials and social media.
- Oversee event registration processes, including name tag preparation and check-in.
- Develop and manage detailed event timelines and budgets.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless execution.
- Act as the on-site point of contact during events, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Evaluate events through attendee feedback and internal debriefs to continuously improve.

- Proven experience in event planning or event execution, ideally for nonprofit organizations.

- Ability to manage multiple events simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Creative problem-solving skills and flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances.
- Experience with branding and promotional strategies for events.
- Budget management experience preferred.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Familiarity with Nebraska communities and their unique dynamics is a plus.
