The Nebraska Journalism Trust is Nebraska’s first and only statewide, independent, nonprofit news organization. Our mission: To uncover truth, amplify diverse voices, and enrich life in Nebraska.

We are hiring a social media intern to join our newsroom for Silicon Prairie News for one year. This internship offers hands-on experience in various aspects of marketing, social media management, content creation and campaign execution. 

The social media intern will report to the editor of Silicon Prairie News. The position is based at the organization’s headquarters in downtown Omaha and requires some in-office work, with the potential for remote work. It also requires occasional travel within Nebraska including evening and on weekends. 

Hourly: Flexible, 10 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours in the summer, or 20 hours per week year round

Pay: $17/ hour

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:

  • Assist in managing and updating social media accounts.
  • Create engaging content, including posts, images and videos to increase brand visibility and engagement.
  • Support the planning and execution of marketing campaigns across multiple channels. 
  • Assist in coordination of events, both virtual and in-person.
  • Provide input on creative ideas and strategies to enhance marketing initiatives.
  • Provide general administrative support to the editorial team, including organizing files, scheduling interviews and maintaining marketing materials. 
  • Gain transferable professional skills, such as teamwork, meeting deadlines and accepting feedback.

1. Is in eleventh or twelfth grade in a public or private high school; or 

2. Is enrolled in a college, university, or other institution of higher education; or 

3. Is hired and begins their internship within twelve months following graduation from a college, university, or other institution of higher education.

Other Key Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to generate innovative ideas.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
